Many of these victims try in vain to raise money quickly in their panic state without any attempt to check by phone if the said relative is really in captive. They take the culprits word for real and of course given the short period of time for them to save the life of a loved one, the forget to do the logical things.

Although this scam has been widely published to inform the public, many are still falling prey to the culprits simply because they panic. Just remember that whenever you are asked for money in whatever way possible, even if it’s some life threatening calls, do check first before you panic and hand over your life savings.

I am especially wary of stuff like a hair dryer, heated blanket and even escalators at shopping malls. You just never know if they are safe. I even read that last year a boy was electrocuted and killed when he leaned on a lamp post.

Nothing should be taken for granted. So be aware that such accidents do happen and take more safety precautions wherever you can.

During my neighour’s hunt around for a system, she asked if we could recommend any. She preferred to have some wireless alarms rather those those that are wired because she didn’t want any hacking to be done to her house walls.

I don’t know of any as my knowledge in this area is rather limited. We do have a system installed at home but we made the decision on the brand because we see them being widely used and the features seem to be good. So if anyone knows of any wireless security systems, perhaps you can share your views and recommendations.

Do you have a home security system installed in your home? If you do not, I strongly recommend that you consider it. It is important for peace of mind these days.

Thousands of Thais are not celebrating Songkran, or the water festival today, and instead are taking to the streets of Bangkok. Read this little exerpt:

Thai protesters and government forces clashed early Monday in the capital Bangkok, with numerous injures reported as violence intensified in public demonstrations that forced the cancellation of a major regional summit, according to news media accounts from the region.

People with travel plans are warned to stay away from Bangkok and those who are in Bangkok should exercise precaution to stay away from the streets. Looking at the rate it is going, it does not seem to be easing and tension is getting greater as the ousted Prime Minister is strongly backing the red shirts in going all the way with their call for Abhisit to step down.

It is indeed a pity to see a country in such a state. Already the economy is going downhill, and to be saddled with a political issue and social unrest is totally unthinkable. What will happen to Thailand after all this mess is over, whether a new government is installed or not? Nobody knows the future anymore.

FastTap allows a mobile phone user to pay for various things like toll charges, parking, theme park fees, etc by tapping their Nokia 6212 Classic phone  on any Touch ‘n Go points.

Whilst this is obviously aimed at providing convenience of being able to pay without using cash or credit card, I do wonder about the security issue of using a phone to make payments. I’m sure the parties have gone through stringent scrutiny to make sure it is a safe payment gateway. But I’m also concerned about the rise of mobile phone thefts because there is added value to these phones now that they are as good as credit cards or cash, not to mention the value of the phone itself.

So is this really going to be a convenience that we need, or will this pose as more of a threat to owners of the phone? I for one do not need such high tech convenience, and definitely will not be forking out extra money to buy a specific phone just to be able to pay with it. Cash and credit cards still work fine for me.
