There’s not much we can do other than to exercise caution when making travel plans to any country because you just don’t know how far spread the virus has become. If possible, I feel we should avoid travels at the moment.

May people are also taking precaution by snapping up flu medications from pharmacies and at doctors’ clinics or hospitals, but these are not 100% effective as there are just too many strains of flus and not all of them can be contained by medication.

Personally, I would prefer to stay away from people who have recently come back from abroad, wherever it may be, and also to avoid crowded areas as much as possible.

How scary! We’re not even done worrying about the spread of the swine flu and now we have to deal with a suspected spread of cholera in the country. Read the latest news about this case of suspected cholera here.

A total of 50 people have been hospitalised and health authorities said that it will take a couple of weeks to investigate the source of this outbreak. Isn’t that a bit too long?! By the time it is detected, the problem may not be localised anymore and it could have spread far and wide!

Anyway, as a safety measure, just be safe and careful when consuming outside food. Even when eating in, prepare your food safely in a clean manner. Stay healthy!

The situation looks rather gloomy as thousands of cases are being investigated in Mexico city. It is also fast spreading in the United States where more cases have been reported and the same is going on in Europe.

In Asia, South Korea is investigating a case whilst in Thailand a woman has been put in quarantine. Other parts of the world will likely see suspected cases cropping up. More deaths are predicted and this epidemic is likely to worsen the already gloomy economies of the world.

We’re in times full of fears and uncertainties. Are you worried? I am!

Poor kidney patients receiving haemodialysis treatment at NGO centres can look forward to a better quality of life. The Government will spend RM12.6mil a year to provide these 2,700 patients with free erythropoeitin (e-poeitin) injections beginning April 1.

For a patient to undergo dialysis treatment, it is a life long thing and that translates to a lot of money that must be spent on such treatments. It’s a wonder how some less than average or even an average income family can afford these regular treatments for their ill family members. So I applaud the government in helping out these patients by offering them free injections.

I’m not sure how this information on this provision will be passed around, but if you know of someone who needs these treatments and how this will help to ease their financial burden, spread the news!

Anyway, the reason I brought this up is because I read in today’s news that the government is calling for more of its clinics to extend their operating hours. This came from some good response they had from some clinics which had earlier implemented longer operating hours.

I applaud this move to cater more to the people, letting them have better access to medical attention. We need to see more of this kind of initiatives rather than all that political circus that’s currenly on-going!
