I remember the days when the first mobile phones were introduced to the market, they were bulky and huge boxed up gadgets. At the time, beauty of the phones were never questioned. The technology of having a telephone with you wherever you are was enough to baffle anybody into questioning anything else about the mobile phone.
And then, through the following years, the aesthetic factor quickly came into play and people bought phones because of how they looked, how slim they were, how cool the functions were, etc. It was no longer enough to be the greatest technology on earth. It needs to be pleasant to the eyes, the features need to top the current phone you have (and those of your friends for that matter!) and you probably even want the highest pixeled camera on it to make it just the perfect all-in-one phone.
Recently my mom was keen to buy me a phone as a present. She thought that I needed one that incorporates 3G and all its glorious functions so that I can easily access the internet and do my business anytime, anywhere since I run an online business. She was looking at some sleek Touch Phones as choiced phones for me.
As nice as these phones are, I gave it some thought and decided that it’s probably what would work best for me. If I were to have something that I can carry with me at all times and use it for business use while on the go, I think I would much prefer a netbook or something similar. You see, for me, a phone can still never match the ease of use of a computer to do what I need to do.
Of course I can’t argue that for smaller and more basic functions of just checking your emails and my business site for reference while I am out of the home or office, it would be a lot more convenient than to boot up the computer. That was her come back to me when I said I don’t think I need any Nokia Touch Phones or Samsung Touch Phones. I guess she’s got a point there.
But the truth is that I’m just not that kind of phone savvy person who would go for the latest feature and the beauty of the phone. I like my phone to be simple, with enough functions for me to call, text a message, send a multimedia message and to take some decent photographs when I feel like it. That is a good enough phone for me and it would be an added bonus for the phone to come in a nice packaging with a small price tag to boot!
Mobile phones these days are really fashion items. Do you treat yours as such? Do you change your phones often just because the next model on the shelves are much cooler?
