Eating in is healthier and cheaper, so do it

by specky on August 24, 2009

Let’s face it, times are not that great in terms of how the economy and jobs market are like, coupled with the fact that the threat of the influenza A H1N1 is getting more serious. In times like this, I personally feel that it is best to eat in. That is, to cook for yourself.

Not only is it healthier (if you cook healthy food, that is), it is also cheaper on your wallet to eat in versus having your meals at restaurants or cafes. Even the simplest of meals outside can cost you quite a lot when you add up your food bill for the week or month.

But I also know the challenges of eating in. You often run out of ideas what to cook. If that’s the case, you need not fret for there are plenty of free recipes to be found online. There are so many recipe sites as well as food blogs that you can find just about any type of food and recipes made available to you all for free. Some even come with pictures to show you the end result as well as step-by-step pictures of cooking the food. Isn’t that just great?

It’s often made very convenient to look for recipes online too because they are very well categorised according to poulty, vegetables, dessert, etc. Even if you just simply do a search on the internet for chicken recipes, you will find thousands if not millions of results for it. It doesn’t get any easier than that, does it?

If you like, you can even buy cooking recipes books so that you can have them as keepsake. I actually like collecting recipe books so I often shop for them and there are plenty offered very cheaply.

So do give it a try to make something for yourself at home very cheaply and healthily. Use less oil to cook, avoid fried foods, have lots of vegetables and most importantly, go for a balanced diet each time. Since you’re the chef who can decide on the menu, you can always make it a point to choose the dishes that contains a well balanced diet with all the nutrients you need.

So I say go for it, eat in to stay healthy and spend less money!

Because of finances, we eat in a lot more now and I get all my recipes online. www.tastykitchen.com has awsome recipes and www.tastespotting.com and www.foodblogs.com have links to food blogs with recipes and pictures. I dont buy buy cook books any longer — it is much easier to search sites like these – plus they have a better selection of recipes (and pics)
